I’m Janki Shah, originally from India, now calling Washington, D.C. home after spending some time in New York City studying Urban Design at Columbia University. For the past 7 years, I've been working as a Job Captain at HKS, gaining experience across mixed-use commercial, residential, and healthcare projects. My expertise spans both interior architecture and exterior detailing, and I thrive in the process of bringing elements together to create a cohesive narrative. I believe every drawing tells a story and must connect seamlessly with the rest of a project’s details.
I’m excited about the next step in my career and believe that change is a powerful catalyst for growth. My goal is to transition into a Project Architect role, and I’m looking for a team that will help me reach that milestone. I particularly enjoy collaborating with consultants and compiling the final set for submission—it’s a great feeling of camaraderie. I’m also halfway through my exams, and I’m confident that this next step will build my competency and get me even closer to my goal.
Outside of work, I enjoy bringing people together—whether it’s running around D.C., discovering new workout classes, or sipping coffee with friends while exploring hidden gems in the city. I’m passionate about mentorship, both as a mentor and a mentee, and have volunteered with AIA in various capacities. One of my most rewarding experiences was organizing site tours that connected D.C. residents with local development projects. I also love mentoring students and have participated in reviews at Howard University and UDC.
